From hurdles to solutions

The path to efficient charging infrastructure management

Before using chargecloud, setting up its own e-mobility offering presented Rexel with considerable hurdles:

  • Contract design and billing were complex and time-consuming
  • There was no suitable software solution for managing its own charging points
  • Manual administration tied up valuable resources and made scaling difficult

In order to strategically develop its e-mobility portfolio, Rexel needed a flexible, powerful system – and a partner who understood the specific requirements of the energy market.

Rexel had a clear vision of how its own e-mobility offering should be developed: the focus was on building a strong solution that automates complex processes and significantly simplifies charging infrastructure management.

At the same time, the CPO offering needed to be professionalised in a targeted manner – with the aim of further strengthening Rexel's role as a trusted partner for installation companies in the future market of electric mobility. The motto: meet the highest standards!

To achieve its goal of a holistic e-mobility solution, Rexel relied on a strong technical foundation – the chargecloud operating system. As a scalable, cloud-based operating system, it offers exactly the stability and flexibility required for a growing charging infrastructure offering.

The charging stations are delivered to installers preconfigured (including SIM card). This significantly simplifies the onboarding process, making it much more efficient: Electricians take over the installation directly at the location partners' premises – such as supermarkets, companies or car parks. The location partners then take care of the registration and tariff selection themselves.

Based on this infrastructure, Rexel now offers a comprehensive service package:

  • Automated billing:
    The chargecloud Partner Solution Management automatically invoices all charging sessions – including reimbursement to the respective location partners.
  • Technical support:
    Installers benefit from their own backend access, remote access for monitoring, configuration and fault diagnosis, and reliable first-level support.
  • Transparency for location partners:
    Via an individually branded Fleet & Partner Portal (app and web) in Rexel design, location partners maintain a central overview of charging points, charging sessions and revenue.
  • Effortless roaming:
    Thanks to the integration with chargecloud's Inbound eRoaming product, even non-provider e-motorists have access to the charging points – without any additional roaming contracts.

The solution at a glance
 

Rexel supplies preconfigured charging points (including SIM cards) to installers. These are already prepared so that they can be quickly and easily integrated into the chargecloud operating system.

chargecloud provides the scalable operating system for centralised management of the charging points – including remote monitoring, billing, roaming and hardware management. Rexel, installers and location partners are directly integrated via the backend, Fleet & Partner Portal, or app.

Location partners register via the app or web portal, select tariffs and gain insight into charging sessions and revenues. Billing is automated: Rexel takes over the billing of charging sessions and the reimbursement to location partners.

Installers install the charging points on site at the customer's premises and connect them to the chargecloud system. They are given access to a dedicated backend where they can monitor charging points, diagnose errors and make configurations.

The interaction between Rexel, the location partner, the installers and the chargecloud operating system in daily operations (including billing, monitoring and support).

Thanks to the clear distribution of roles between Rexel, installers and location partners, a system has been created that delivers impressive results in practice: installers benefit from technical support, remote access and a straightforward connection process. At the same time, they can share in the revenue generated by the charging points they install – automated billing and revenue sharing are handled directly by chargecloud.

Location partners, in turn, can keep track of charging sessions, tariffs and revenues via an app or web portal. As the central operator, Rexel not only takes over billing and technical management, but also ensures smooth processes in the background.

The result:

A networked, scalable model that simplifies complex processes – and makes e-mobility economically attractive for all involved.
