Software provider chargecloud has joined the Open Charge Alliance, reaffirming the company’s support for technical standards and open protocols in connecting and managing charging infrastructure.

The Open Charge Alliance develops the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), a free and openly accessible protocol that enables communication between charging stations and charging management software.

The OCPP protocol is a key standard for the exchange of data between charging points and management software. It is used by hardware manufacturers and EV platform providers worldwide and transmits charging session information, technical faults, and other notifications to charge point management software in a secure and standardises way.

chargecloud has been using OCPP as a communication standard since the company’s inception in 2016. The protocol works with hardware from different manufacturers and thereby greatly simplifies the management of charging stations for charge point operators.

Charging stations can be connected to the chargecloud platform using OCPP1.5 and OCPP1.6. The latest protocol version, OCPP2.0.1, is currently being developed.
