North-Rhine Westphalia is the state of "hidden champions". There are hundreds of companies there whose names hardly anyone knows outside the respective industry, but which play an important role in their specialist field. This also includes Cologne-based chargecloud GmbH.

Just two years ago, the enterprise founded by the companies MENNEKES, powercloud and RheinEnergie presented itself for the first time at the "eMove360°" trade show. In the meantime, chargecloud GmbH has become one of the leading providers of cloud-based software solutions for operating networked charging infrastructure and billing charging processes.

Customer-oriented and versatile

Federal Ministries and state building authorities, fleet operators and energy suppliers from Kiel to Kempten rely on the expertise of the start-up from the Rhineland. Managing Director, Axel Lauterborn, puts the company's success down to its versatility above all: "Our software is suitable for operating all types of charging station for electric vehicles, as well as for supplying shore-side electricity to ships. The system also integrates processes like complete billing and customer management, which are otherwise often outsourced, says Lauterborn.

"It couldn't be more convenient," adds Markus Bach, Technical Director of chargecloud, who attaches great importance to the comprehensive and yet modular range of services: "With us you get everything from a single source - whether it is monitoring, billing or a 24/7 call centre for your end customers." All services are provided here as white label solutions in the customer's design.

So much flexibility is also well received by the currently 50 or so customers, including the TankE network and the charging group, e-laden, which use the internal e-roaming function, or MAINGAU Energie GmbH, which offers its customers easy access to over 36,000 charging points in Europe via chargecloud.

"With chargecloud we have a strong partner in electromobility by our side," says Marian Hartwig, Product and Portfolio Manager at the energy supplier, MAINGAU. "When it comes to chargecloud, challenges are tackled quickly and straightforwardly, not just to showcase electromobility provided by any one company, but to make it marketable and easy for electric car drivers in Germany.

Billing compliant with calibration law

As the e-mobility market is developing rapidly at the moment, many new functions are already being developed at chargecloud too.

Charging that complies with calibration law will become a reality this year with chargecloud and MENNEKES. Markus Bach: "All measurements recorded with our software through suitable MENNEKES charging systems will soon satisfy the stringent German calibration law. That will give our customers legal security in future when billing by kilowatt hours as well."

For the coming year, solutions for current challenges such as charging management or the billing of company cars are planned. This consistent focus on the wants and needs of customers is also expected to secure chargecloud's success over the long term in helping to shape the new market and enabling attractive business models in the e-mobility sector.
