The Berliner Stadtwerke operate around 1100 public and semi-public charging points. This includes charging stations from communal providers as well as several hundred charging stations throughout the city of Berlin.

In the summer of 2022, the Berliner Stadtwerke took over charge point operations of 523 public charging points from the previous operator, Allego. These charging stations have since been successfully migrated to chargecloud’s management software.

“When migrating charging stations to a new backend, it was particularly important to us that the software partner would be able to manage the logistical challenge within a short, two-month timeframe. This has worked out excellently. Following the seamless migration process, we have now moved on to stable operations,” says Norbert Juchem, Head of E-Mobility at the Berliner Stadtwerke.

After the successful, fast-paced migration, chargecloud and the Berliner Stadtwerke are working on a range of innovative charging concepts for the German capital.

The Berliner Stadtwerke are planning to roll out a booking system for specifically designated charging points, to be used by narrowly defined customer groups such as real estate companies and fleet managers.

Drivers within the designated groups will be able to make an advance reservation for a 15–20-minute charge via an app provided by the Berliner Stadtwerke. In this way, the utilisation of charging stations can be optimised, while waiting times for drivers will be reduced.

In a further project, parking sensors will be connected to the chargecloud platform. This will allow the Berliner Stadtwerke to compare the parking space utilisation to the status of charging stations in order to identify blocked chargers in real time.

The cooperation includes additional API-based projects, and the number of charging stations will be expanded on a continuous basis.

“We are delighted to accelerate the development of charging infrastructure in the German capital together with the Berliner Stadtwerke,” says Markus Bach, CEO at chargecloud. “In the coming months, we will be working on several exciting projects that can have an impact on e-mobility beyond the city of Berlin.”
